Use the Pic Collage app (or a similar photo collage app) to create a collage of the attractions Paddington could visit in London.

Add a background, photos and text. Experiment with changing the font and colour.

Art

Look at some of the illustrations of Paddington in the books by Michael Bond. Try to replicate some of the drawings. Think carefully about the sketching techniques we learnt in school and how you can create different tones.

PE

Watch the video of the traditional Peruvian dance here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxSqRTY_e-A Choreograph your own dance in the same style. You may need to ask a sibling or adult to be your dance partner! J

Write a script for a scene in the next Paddington Movie! Can you find family members who will perform it with you?

(Possible characters- Paddington, Mr and Mrs Brown, Jonathon and Judy Brown, Aunt Lucy)

PSHE

Imagine you are going on a journey away from your family like Paddington did. Think about what you would miss most. Draw the 5 most important items you would pack in your suitcase and write a sentence to explain their significance to you.

DT

Make a marmalade themed snack fit for Paddington. Will you stick to his favourite marmalade sandwiches or try something new like marmalade cake?

History

Research the history of the teddy bear. Who invented it and when? How have the designs changed over the years?

Present your findings in any way you choose (poster, PowerPoint, leaflet etc)

  DT

Paddington Bear - TP Roll CraftCreate a puppet of Paddington. This could be as simple as a paper plate Paddington face mask or stick puppets. If you are feeling more adventurous, why not sew a puppet using the skills we learnt in school?

Art:

Create your own mythical creature by combining features of 2/3 other animals. You could draw, collage, paint or combine different techniques to create your own art work. Give your beast a name and create a short explanation as you would find alongside exhibits in an art gallery.

DT:

Bake or decorate  some mythical beast inspired food/cakes like these amazing dragon cupcakes:

A picture containing cake, looking, drawing, table

Description automatically generatedA picture containing table, sitting, food, wooden

Description automatically generated

Geography:

Create a map of mythical creatures.

Use a world map and mark on where different mythical creatures could be found.

Can you find one for each continent?

 Science

Optical illusions.

https://www.optics4kids.org/osa.o4k/media/optics4kids/snakes.gif?ext=.gif

If you make this picture a lot bigger, what do you see when you look at it?

Watch the following clip here

Now create your own optical illusion.

History:

Research a myth or a legend that has been told as a story through time.

Present it in a way of your choice. (Story, leaflet, poster, PowerPoint etc)

PSHE:

Are dragons and unicorns real?

How do we know?

Does it matter?

Why or why not?

Discuss this with a family member.

Computing:

Use the ‘Expedition’ or ‘fairy Tale’ trailer on iMovie to make a trailer for a new film about your mythical creature.

Before you record your film, write down what you are going to say using exciting adjectives and nouns to make your sentences.

You could make it fun like Pixar this one or make it scarier!

Music:

Listen to the extract by Mason Bates here. The music is all about a strange and mythical creature called A Bao A Qu. Listen carefully to the music and try to imagine what it looks like and how it moves. Draw and label your strange creature. Contrast with this piece by the same composer called Sprite here .

Draw what comes to mind when you listen to this one!

PE:

Learn the steps for a Chinese dragon dance here.

or

Learn the Unicorn dance here.

Now can you create your own dance?

(Remember you need to be able to do this dance more than once)

You have all been showing me some amazing circus projects. Thank you!

There is a new grid challenge this week. It is all about Sea life. Please, choose the things that you want to do. The idea is that, once you have done some Maths and English, you might choose to do some of these fun activities.

Art:

Create an under the sea scene. Why not try bubble marbling the background (instructions here) then filling with a coral reef scene or colourful fish?

DT:

Make an under the sea themed shadow theatre. There is a (very professional) example here and some instructions here. You can film it and use iMovie to show us all too!

Geography:

Research facts about the different coral reefs in the world: What is a coral reef? Where in the world might you find a coral reef? What is the climate there? What animals live there?

Pretend to be David Attenborough and film the introduction to a programme all about them!

Science

Experiment with floating and sinking. Use plastic & wooden items, empty bottles, tennis balls, marbles, tin foil (flat and scrunched) & anything else you find. Record what you notice.  Watch this video. Make some different boats and see which you can make float and how much they can hold. Can you explain why?

History:

The Mary Celeste is one of the most famous shipwrecks in history. Research some information about it and share this in any way you choose. It could be a poem, series of pictures, newspaper article, interview,  report or anything else you can think of!

PSHE:
Our oceans and rivers are being polluted by plastic. What could you and your family do to reduce plastic waste? What could St John’s do to reduce plastic waste?

Create a persuasive letter / poster explaining your view.

Computing:

Using a Word document or a PowerPoint, download 3 pictures of fish and then add their type name.

As an additional challenge, find out a fact about each one and type it next to picture.

(You could then use these facts in your David Attenborough film. See Geography)

Music:

Listen to the first 3 mins and then from 11 minutes of Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes performed here. What aspects of the sea can you hear represented? Which instruments represent different elements?

Now have a go at creating your own composition to reflect your experiences of the sea. It could be based on a picture or what you’ve seen.

PE:

Use the alphabet list here to spell out the names of different sea creatures. Challenge your family members too! You will need the password ‘kids’ to unlock the document.

Remember there are also lots of activities on Bug Club(Phonics and reading), Busy things, Mathletics, Numbots, and Study Ladder ( Phonics, Maths and Topics) .

There are also additional Maths and English tasks for anyone who wishes to look at these too.

Geography

Circuses around the world - Research circuses from around the world, especially Cirque du Soleil.

Complete a mini project on a country where a famous circus group comes from.

( How many people live there, what is the weather like, what is the capital of the country, does it have rivers, lakes … )

Computing

Create a TV advert for a circus. Could someone in your family film you on an iPad? Or could you use iMovie?

In your movie you could include

  • Pictures
  •  drawings
  • plastic or soft toy animals
  • singing
  • dancing
  • gymnastics

All these can help to show what might happen in a circus.

Art

Create an painting or drawing to represent the circus e.g.
